Meet the Minds Behind Berg: Singapore Office Edition
“Bridge to Asia-Pacific”
At the heart of Berg Propulsion’s footprint in Asia-Pacific is a small but powerfully connected team that keeps the business nimble, insightful, and truly global. In this edition of Meet the Minds Behind Berg, we followed up with colleagues from our Singapore office to take a closer look at how their fast-paced, tightly knit team anchors operations and fuels innovation across the region.
What makes the Singapore office critical to Berg’s global operations?
Singapore is more than a dot on the map—it’s a launchpad into Asia and Oceania. With its strategic position along major maritime trade routes and its world-renowned port infrastructure, this city-state is a magnet for ship owners, brokers, designers, and naval architects. It’s a natural home for the marine community.
From its global connectivity to being a top aviation hub, Singapore enables rapid response. Just ask our service engineers, some of whom spend more time in the air than on land. With Changi Airport as their second home and a passport that opens doors, they help us serve customers across continents—fast.
How do you stay close to customers in this region?
Singapore’s compact geography means we’re never far from our customers—literally. We’ve had days where we get a phone call at 2 pm and we are sketching propulsion concepts in their office by 4.
But proximity is just one part of the story. What truly sets our team apart is technical empowerment. Berg Propulsion equips its regional teams with deep engineering knowledge. This allows us to not only respond quickly but also engage customers in solution-building on the spot. We don’t just relay messages—we co-create value, and customers love that.
What’s the team dynamic like in a high-paced environment like Singapore?
We are a close-knit group fueled by trust, humor, and high standards. Help is often just 10 steps away—literally. We thrive on collaboration, built on years of shared experience. In high-pressure moments, that mutual support turns challenges into seamless execution.
What regional trends or opportunities are you seeing in marine propulsion?
Across Asia-Pacific, sustainability is becoming more than a buzzword. Terms like “green,” “efficient,” and “net-zero” now define the strategic priorities of many ship owners and operators. While progress has been slower than hoped—due to high initial costs—government incentives and regulatory mandates are beginning to accelerate the shift.
We are watching closely—and preparing to lead. When the momentum picks up, we’ll be ready to ride that wave.
How do you balance innovation with customer needs?
Innovation is only meaningful when it serves real-world needs. Customers won’t pay for clever tech unless it helps their bottom line. That’s why we focus on SMART innovation—solutions that are simple, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely.
By working side by side with clients, we ensure new ideas translate into tangible value.
Any cultural insights that shape how you work as a team?
In Sweden, it’s all about Fika. In Singapore? It’s the post-lunch ritual of “Kopi siu dai”—a local-style coffee shared among colleagues. These little moments fuel our team harmony and act as the “lube oil in our CPPs,” keeping everything running smoothly and tensions low.
